Overview:
Your pool is losing water, and you need to know why. Maybe your water bill jumped $100 last month. Maybe you’re adding inches of water every few days. Maybe your pool guy told you, “It might be a leak,” and shrugged. At Leak Science, we don’t guess. We use proven detection methods, specialized equipment, and nearly 20 years of field experience to find pool leaks with precision. And unlike most leak detection companies, we don’t just hand you a report — we fix the leak and restore your deck, all in one visit.
Pools – With the average pool being close to 1000 sqft of surface area and in some cases 1 mile of pipes, we are very well versed in solving water loss issues related to your pool.
Spas – Spas are some of the most complex leak locating jobs we are challenged with. Even though the structures are smaller than a pool. Spas have pipes and plumbing bundles in close proximity to each other, set in solid concrete, making locating very technical. A few inches to the left or right might mean the entire repair scope has to change. This is the main reason we have invested in the best equipment money can buy.
Pool Infloor Cleaning systems – These plumbing systems consist of a network of pipes that enter underground from the side of the pool, then network out and under the pool and spa floor, steps, and benches. We have developed a proven process to accurately locate these leaks and identify them. This network of pipes is split into zones. To identify the zones that leak, a comprehensive isolation pressure test is run on each.
What’s Included
Signs Your Pool Has a Leak
- Water level drops faster than normal evaporation (about 1/4 inch per day in Arizona)
- Water bill spikes — an unexplained increase often points to a hidden leak
- Wet or soggy spots around the pool deck, in the yard, or near equipment
- Cracks in the pool surface — even hairline fractures can leak gallons per day
- Your pump loses prime — air in the system may mean a suction-side pipe is cracked
- Algae growth despite proper chemistry — leaking water dilutes chemicals faster
- Your auto-fill runs constantly
How We Detect Pool Leaks
Step 1 — Conversation
We start by talking with you. When did the water loss start? How fast is it dropping? Does it change when the pump is running vs. off?
Step 2 — Visual Inspection
Our technicians inspect every visible inch of your pool, spa, and equipment. We check skimmers, returns, light niches, tile line, and pool surface.
Step 3 — Dye Testing
We apply specialized leak detection dye near suspected areas. If water is escaping through a crack, the dye is visibly drawn toward the leak.
Step 4 — Pressure Testing
Each underground pipe is individually isolated and pressurized. If a pipe can’t hold pressure, we know it’s leaking.
Step 5 — Acoustic Detection
For underground leaks, we use highly sensitive acoustic listening equipment. Water escaping from a pressurized pipe creates a distinct sound.
Step 6 — Leak Verification
Before we dig, we verify. We combine acoustic findings with pressure test data and dye test results to confirm the leak location within a 2×2 foot area.
Pool Leak Detection Costs
Pool leak detection in the Phoenix metro area typically costs between $175 and $600, depending on complexity. Most pool leak repairs range from $500 to $1,500. We provide transparent pricing before any work begins.
