Fixing a Leak in a Flex Pipe Pool Water Feature — A Case Study
Flexible PVC pipe (flex pipe) is commonly used for pool water features like waterfalls, spillovers, and therapy jets. It’s convenient for installation but prone to leaking at connections.
The Problem
A homeowner in Scottsdale noticed their waterfall was losing water whenever it ran. Their pool service company couldn’t find the issue. They called Leak Science.
The Detection
We isolated the water feature line and pressure tested it. The line couldn’t hold pressure, confirming a leak. Using acoustic equipment, we traced the leak to a flex pipe connection buried under the raised bond beam.
The Repair
We excavated to the connection, found a cracked flex pipe fitting, and replaced the section with rigid PVC for a more durable repair. The line held full pressure after repair.
The Result
The waterfall runs perfectly with zero water loss. The homeowner’s water bill dropped $60 the following month.
Lesson
Flex pipe connections are a common leak point. If your water feature seems to lose water, it’s worth having the lines pressure tested. Call Leak Science at 480-794-0959.
