There is nothing like spending a day by the pool with friends and family. But as many homeowners know, it takes a lot of work to keep a pool running smoothly throughout the year. If you experience water loss within your pool system, this could indicate a significant problem in the pool. If you need pool leak detection in Phoenix, Leak Science is the team for the job!

Proper maintenance is required to prevent water loss in your swimming pool. One of the best ways to maintain a swimming pool and avoid water loss is to have a full-time professional service company check your swimming pool’s systems on a regular basis. One way to know that you need this service is when you notice that your seals are not keeping all the water inside your swimming pool.

Signs You Need Pool Leak Detection in Phoenix

Not all pool leaks show themselves through obvious signs. However, there are a few things you can look for to see if your pool is in good working condition or needs some maintenance.

Pool is leaking

If your swimming pool is leaking, you need to hire a professional pool service company to inspect it and determine if there is a problem with your equipment or if it is just something that needs to be fixed. Of course, if your pool has already started leaking, then you should call a professional Phoenix leak detection team to get everything fixed before you start adding more problems.

There are cracks in your pool

If there are cracks on the walls of your swimming pool, which can be hard to notice if you don’t know what you are looking for, then you should call a professional swimming pool service company to come out and check on the status of your equipment. Cracks appearing on the wall will continue to grow unless they are addressed. Cracks in your pool can be a safety hazard for you and anyone else around the swimming pool.

The pool pump is not functioning

If your pool pump is not working correctly, you should address this immediately. Many people who own swimming pools don’t realize that your pool pump does not have to run all day and night. It is a good idea to shut off the pump when you are not by the swimming pool, so if you have noticed that the pump has stopped working, then it could be time for a pool leak detection Phoenix team inspection. This inspection involves looking at your pool equipment and the pump, and you will see if there are any problems with your equipment or a problem with the pump.

Areas prone to leaking in your swimming pool

Some of the areas prone to leaking in your pool include:

  • Tanks. Above-ground pool storage tanks are very common in the Phoenix area. This is because it is easier to store your swimming pool when it is above ground. If you notice that there are leaks in this area, then you need to have a professional come and inspect your swimming pool tank. This will help you find the source of the problem and fix it immediately.

  • Pumps. If there are any leaks around your current pump, then this will be an indication that your swimming pool system has some problems with it. If you notice that leaks do not appear to be coming from your swimming pool equipment, this could be a sign that your pump is having problems. People often see leaks around their pool pumps, which can damage the pool pump over time. When your swimming pool pump becomes damaged, it will cost a lot of money to repair or replace it, so it is best to have it replaced before any damage occurs.

  • Pool lights. Yes, even your pool lights can crack and form leaks! Be sure to check these often for signs of damage to prevent leaks from springing up.

Tests For Pool Leaks

Several tests can be done to determine the most likely cause of a leak in a pool. The following are the most popular and effective tests.

The Float Test

This is one of the easiest, cheapest, and most accurate methods for determining where your leak is located in your pool. To do this test, you will need a bucket or something similar to place water from your pool that has been drained into it around the area that you suspect might be leaking to soak it up.

There are two ways to do this. First, manually fill the bucket via a hose or scoop water from your pool. The second way is to use the drain plug in your pool which will have the effect of siphoning water from your pool onto whatever it is that you have placed inside your bucket.

Once the water has filled up to a certain point in the bucket, place a piece of tape, string, or something similar on top of the surface so that you know where the water line is when it drops below that point. You can either wait for the bucket to empty to take the test again or place a piece of tape or string onto the bottom of your bucket to mark where the water line is and leave it overnight.

The Float Test Without A Bucket

This is the same as the float test except that you do not need to use a container such as a bucket. This test can be done without one, depending on how big your pool is and where exactly.

If it is easy to reach the suspected area, manually pull the skimmer out and fill it with water or via a hose. If it is too far away to reach without draining your pool, then you will need to drain some of the water out of your pool. This ensures that when you fill-up the skimmer with water then, there will be enough weight in it such that when placed where you think might be a leak, it doesn’t float away. You then mark on your skimmer where the water line is and leave it overnight.

If you do not have access to a skimmer, then you will need to use something a little more sophisticated such as a large bowl. The benefit of using this on your own is that it will be easier to work out where the leak is. Place your pool water around the suspected area, and once your water level has reached about 1/3 of the way up, you can mark the bottom of it where the water line is and leave it overnight or until morning.

Once again, if you have a hose connected to your pool, you can manually fill water from your pool into your bowl or bucket before placing it for bedding for testing. If not, you will need to depend on the natural draining action of your pool to fill up your bowl or bucket.

The Weight Test For Pool Leaks

There are different ways to do this. First, you need a bucket or anything similar to hold pool water in and have it placed over the suspected area that might be leaking. Then, connect a hose to fill it with water from your pool. You will also need equipment for a skimmer or something similar, depending on where you think your leak is in your pool.

If you have a skimmer, fill the sump with water and place your suspected leak over it so it can suck it up. Alternatively, you can use a large bowl and place pool water around the suspected area. When placing this over or around the area that you think might be leaking then make sure it doesn’t sit too close to the wall as this could cause problems when draining the pool as it could cause leaks anywhere else in that area of the pool.

Why do you need a pool leak detection team to check your swimming pool?

You need to have a pool leak detection team come out and see if your swimming pool is leaking. You need an expert to look at your swimming pool equipment because these are very sensitive systems, and the last thing you want to do is make the situation worse. You should call a professional Phoenix leak detection team to detect any problems in this system before it becomes costly. This can be one of the most important things you ever do, especially if you see the water from your swimming pool going down the drain or if there are other signs around this system.

If your swimming pool leaks, it can be costly financially and in personal injury. If you do a lot of repairs yourself and attempt to fix this problem without the help of a professional, then this could end up being more costly than if you had called a professional Phoenix leak detection team to help you with this problem.
