How to Prepare Your Pool for Monsoon Season in Arizona

Arizona’s monsoon season (June through September) brings intense dust storms, heavy rain, and dramatic temperature swings. Here’s how to protect your pool.

Before the Storms

• Get a leak detection if you suspect any water loss — monsoon soil movement makes existing leaks worse
• Trim trees and remove loose branches that could fall into the pool
• Secure pool furniture and equipment covers
• Check your pump and filter are in good working order

During Monsoon Season

• Never swim during lightning storms
• Run your pump after dust storms to filter debris
• Check chemical levels more frequently — rain dilutes chemistry
• Monitor water level — both overflow and loss can indicate problems

After Storms

• Skim debris immediately
• Shock the pool after heavy rain
• Check for new cracks in the deck or pool surface
